Matthew 25:40, NIV “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
On July 23rd, we reached our fiftieth mark. We served 50 households that were in need of furniture. As I reflect on the fifty, I remember the tears of many people. Many who had felt despair and had felt devalued because they did not have a place to sleep. Many did not open their doors to others because of not having a place to sit or to share a cup of coffee. It has been a tough journey full of challenges, glitches and a learning.
The fifty households that were served are a reminder of the need that is out there for our organization. Thanks to the grace of God we were able to partner with 17 Referring Partnering Agencies who are still sending more clients. Thanks to the love of God that resides in the surrounding communities and the churches who have embraced the mission of Mustard Seed. Thanks to their generosity we have furniture to give. Thanks to favor of God we have volunteers who selflessly give of their time and finances to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Thanks to the wisdom of God our board has developed into a team of unity and vision.
As we celebrate the fifty mark, we also reflect on the loss of a dear board member – Lawrance Morrissey. His death in a kayak accident caused all of us to pause. We paused to remember his great contribution to this start up organization. His tech savvy knowledge contributed to the growth of this organization. His love for his family and this organization. He often merged the two together. He would often bring his three children to volunteer, to events and included them in projects. For Lawrance, there was no defining line between his family life and helping. In fact, this is a value he instilled in his young family. His wife continues to embrace Mustard Seed. She has volunteered to help us. What a beautiful legacy!
As we celebrate these fifty households, Mustard Seed prays that we would be able to partner with those who have a heart to make an impact, to shine His Light and to give hope & value. Thank you to all who have been a part of this journey.
There is still fifty more households to reach before the end of the year! Fifty places to transform into a Fifty homes. Fifty hearts, souls of fifty human beings who are waiting for their places to be transformed to homes. So it’s back to our mission – to help rebuild the lives of families & individuals who have suffered a disaster or personal tragedy by providing household furnishings.
